Quick Summary, Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot is based on a memoir written by John Callahan. An alcoholic, cartoonist, Callahan meets a guy named Dexter at a party. They get along pretty well so they decide to go to a bunch of different parties. On the way to one party Dexter falls a sleep at the wheel and crashes into a pole. Because of this, Callahan is now a quadriplegic and must deal with his new life.

First off, I absolutely love the story telling in this movie. The way it handles John Callahan’s alcoholism is very well done. It shows this man who is dealt these really shitty cards and how he is able to make it a winning hand. Gus Van Sant’s writting and direction is what really makes this story memorable. His pacing of the film was good and was able to make it a really heartfelt narrative.

My second favorite thing about this is all of the performances. Joaquin Phoenix turns in a phenomenal performance as John Callahan. Phoenix really makes you feel like he is an alcoholic quadriplegic. I would say though that Jonah Hill’s performance is right up there with Phoenix. Hill plays Callahan’s AA sponsor who just happens to be gay. I feel like Jonah Hill should have been at least nominated for an Oscar for his role, but he is still a winner in my heart. Lastly Jack Black as Dexter does a fine job. Its nothing spectacular but it is still a good performance by Black.

Joaquin Phoenix and Jonah Hill’s characters enjoying a nice chat.

I wholeheartedly recommend this movie to everyone out there. This movie was distributed by Amazon Studios so you can check it out on Prime right now. If you dont have prime I feel like its worth your money to rent it or even buy it to add to your blu-ray collection. The performances and story is what gives this movie a reason to watch it multiple times.

What did you think of Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot? Did you think the performances were as good as I did, or is there something you would of liked done differently? Let me know down in the comments below. I hope you enjoyed this review and stay tuned to the Blam Bros for more content.
